Past Year SPM BK Paper
Study Tip on Luke Part 1
In the preparation for the SPM BK paper, it is important that besides studying chapter by chapter of the gospel of Luke in detail, students should study the gospel of Luke as a continuous whole. Here, they should include the following topics:
• Events in Jesus’ life – for example, birth, baptism, temptations, ministry, Triumphal entry into Jerusalem, Last Supper, Gethsemane and arrest, trials, crucifixion, burial, resurrection, ascension
• People connected with Jesus
• Miracles
• Parables
• Prominence given to women
• Jesus’ attitude towards sinners, social outcast, the under-privileged and down-trodden
• Growth of criticism and opposition to Jesus
• Jesus’ teaching on: prayer, Kingdom of God , riches, greatness and humility ,discipleship, repentance and forgiveness, the Law and the sabbath, divorce and marriage
• Jesus’ use of the Old Testament
• Ministry of angels – Zechariah, Mary, shepherds, Jesus in the garden and women at the tomb
• Jesus' warnings and promises
• Fulfillment of prophecies in Old Testaments
The students should expand these topics so that they will understand and recall the facts well and know any similarities and differences of the events recorded in Gospel of Luke. For example, the differences in response between Mary ( mother of Jesus) and Zechariah ( father of John the Baptist) toward the announcement of the angel.
We will discuss it in the next part of "Study Tip on Luke"
